Why I Became a REALTOR® (And What Keeps Me Going)

by Regen Klein

Real estate wasn’t always the plan, but it's always lingered in the back of my mind starting 30 years ago! I’ve always been drawn to helping people, solving problems, and creating order out of chaos. I just didn’t realize that the perfect intersection of all those things would be found in real estate.

The Beginning: A Leap of Faith

Like many in this industry, my path here wasn’t a straight line. I came from a background in project management and client experience, but I found myself craving something more personal; something with real impact.  When I got my license over six years ago, I didn’t expect how deeply meaningful this work would become.

The Why: People Over Property

Sure, I love beautiful homes and a good renovation story, but it’s never really about the walls or square footage. It’s about the people. The newlyweds buying their first home, the growing family bursting at the seams,  the couple starting over, or the retiree closing one chapter and opening another. Helping people navigate those milestones and being trusted with such big moments in their lives, is something I’ll never take for granted.

The Hard Truth: Real Estate Isn’t Easy

This job comes with long hours, hard conversations, and no guarantees. There are wins and losses and delays and surprises, but every challenge is a chance to learn, grow, and serve better next time. The failure rate for new agents is 80% in the first year and 87% in the first five. What keeps me going is knowing that I get to be a steady hand through what can be a very emotional process. I get to bring clarity, calm, and confidence to my client whether they’re buying their first home, dream home, or selling a house filled with memories.

The Gratitude: It’s Bigger Than Me

I stay motivated by the people I meet, the stories I get to be part of, and the difference I can make big or small. Every “just checking in” text, every hug at the closing table, every client who becomes a friend reminds me why I started and why I keep going.

— Mark Twain
